Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers took part in the town’s first Race For Life event on Sunday (July 12th).

The event was started from next to Burnham’s jetty by Deputy Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock and his wife, and was held to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Organised by Slimming World, entrants were encouraged to complete either a 1km or 3km course.

Slimming World’s Keran Parker, pictured right, who arranged the Race for Life with her colleague Toni Andrews, said: “Our thanks go to those who attended the event today – I was really pleased with the support we had. We received donations of £178 for the charity, which was great.”

“Asda and Tesco generously donated bottled water and a very big thank you to Cllr Bill Hancock and his lovely wife for being with us to start off the race and cheer us all on.”

Keran’s classes are at The Old Court House in Burnham’s Jaycroft Road on Mondays at 10am and 12 noon, and Tuesdays at 3.30pm, 5.15pm and 7pm. Toni’s classes are held at Berrow Village Hall on Monday Evenings at 5.30pm and 7pm.
