Busy weekend of Christmas events at Burnham’s St Andrew’s Church

-

Christmas is being celebrated with a number of events at Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church this weekend.

The Church will be open every day up until Christmas Eve for the annual Christmas tree festival.

This year the church has more trees than ever with representative community groups and local shops contributing to the festival.

On Sunday there will be a special service at 10am in the morning with a reading of the whole nativity story. The service has been devised and written by the vicar, Reverend Graham Witts.

On Sunday evening, there will be an opportunity to join with the Church choir who will be singing at the carol service at 6.30pm. St Andrew’s School will be singing three songs during the concert which will be attended by Burnham’s Mayor, Ken Smout, who will be reading a lesson.

Reverned Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I want this to be a real town wide event and we welcome anyone from the area to join us and join in well-known songs and carols. Mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer following the service.”

Christmas Eve sees the church’s annual Christingle service at 5pm, followed by midnight mass at 11.15pm.

Christmas morning will see services at 8am and 10pm and Graham said: “This has been a difficult year for Burnham with the continuing economic situation and the tragic death of Dylan Cecil in the summer.”

“Since Chrsitmas time is a time for families we have tried to reflect this fact in our church life. I offer my hope that each and every home may have a joyful and happy Christmas. I hope this is a time in which we can appreciate the uniqueness of each other and celebrate the gift of life.”
