Dozens of people from across the country have attended Berrow-based Kung Fu group Fei Lung Kwan’s annual National Junior Grading competition.
Held at Berrow School, this year’s event saw the largest participation of students from around the UK including Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Middlesex.
“The grading was probably the most successful in terms of passes as there were no failures and approximately 70% passed with a Merit which is extremely unusual but an excellent reflection on both the students and their instructors!” said one of the organisers.
The Berrow Kung Fu Club were once again highly successful with an 80% pass rate with Merits. Cerys Thomas and Sophie Butt took their 2nd Grade Orange Sash which is the final grade before their Junior Black Sash Grade due to take place on 19th September.
Rhiana Sinclair took her 3rd Grade Orange sash and will also be taking her Junior Black Sash Grade on the 19th September.
Cerys, Sophie and Rhiana all passed with merit plus Sophie and Rhiana were awarded the highest honour and recognition at a Grading as they achieved total scores of above 98% and thus awarded the covetous Red Dragon stamp on their certificates.
This is the second time both Sophie and Rhiana have been awarded the Red Dragon stamp! In the history of the Fei Lung Kwan only seven other students have previously achieved this honour.
Other students from the Berrow Kung Fu Club who achieved Merit Passes were Jacob Nelson 6th Grade, Faith Hooper 7th Grade plus Shanel and Layton Bitton 15th Grade.
The Grading was enjoyed by students and supporters following which all 85 students and supporters headed to Burnham beach for their annual picnic.
