Staff, pupils and parents bid a fond farewell to the head teacher of a Highbridge school on Wednesday (March 31st) when a surprise ceremony was held on her final day in the job.
The huge crowd gathered in the school’s playground to cheer Beechfield’s Sheelagh Aslett as she walked out of the gates for the final time.
“We wanted to give Sheelagh a proper send-off after more than 20 years in the post,” deputy head teacher Di Davison told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“All the children, parents and teachers gathered together outside the school to give her a big cheer as she left for the final time.”
“She is like one of the ‘fixtures and fittings’ here and will be greatly missed – it was definitely a sad day to see her go.”
Sheelagh thanked everyone for their support and kind wishes during her emotional final day.
Beechfield Infants School and St John’s Church of England Junior School are merging this autumn to form a new school, Churchfield Primary School, which will open in September.
