Supporters of Highbridge’s Apex Wildlife Park travelled to Exeter this week to receive a sought-after ‘green’ award.
Apex Park was awarded a ‘Planting Places’ award by Sustainability South West, which shines the spotlight on the best examples of public, sustainable green areas across the region.
Ten greenspaces from across the South West were awarded the prizes in recognition of their input and influence in supporting healthy, sustainable communities.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Project Officer, Marina Turner, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is fantastic news for Apex Park, the friends of its improvements group and for Sedgemoor District Council.”
“I believe that with grant assistance from the Somerset Community Foundation to provide more events, Sedgemoor’s recent installation of the Playscape, and with Natural England’s recent recommendation to declare the park a Local Nature Reserve, it has been a huge contribution towards our winning entry.”
Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park is a 42 acre site that is recognised as a site of international importance for nature conservation. Apex Park was once used as a clay digging area.
