A care home in Burnham-On-Sea has this week been closed to new admissions after an outbreak of a highly contagious sickness bug.
Burnham-On-Sea.com learns that several patients at Frith House in Steart Drive have been affected by Norovirus, which causes violent sicknesss and diarrhoea.
“We had a suspected outbreak last week and test results have just come back to confirm this week that it is Norovirus,” Somerset Care spokeswoman Hannah Rowe told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We have temporarily closed the centre to new admissions and also suspended outside services, such as day care. We’re monitoring the situation on a day-by-day basis.”
Doctors advise that although the symptoms of Noro virus are unpleasant, it is not normally life threatening.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last month that Burnham’s War Memorial Hospital had also been struck by an outbreak of Norovirus and was later given the all-clear.
