Two dogs were sadly killed in a fire at a Burnham-On-Sea flat on Wednesday afternoon (March 21st).
Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Bridgwater and Cheddar were called to a property at the junction of The Esplanade and Seaview Road at 12.27pm.
Crews battled the fire with a hose reel jet and a safety jet to extinguish it but sadly said two dogs inside the flat had not been saved.
Fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Fire crews from Burnham, Bridgwater and Cheddar were all mobilised to reports of a domestic house fire.”
“On arrival, crews confirmed smoke issuing from a basement flat involving items left on top of a cooker.”
“Crews used two breathing apparatus sets, a hose reel jet and a safety jet to extinguish the fire.”
“The fire caused 100% fire damage to the items, 25% fire damage to the kitchen and 50% of smoke damage to the rest of the property. There was also slight smoke damage to the flat above.”
A fire investigating officer confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that the blaze had been accidental and had started in a kitchen.
The owner of the flat was away from the property at the time and was not hurt.
