Insurance cost hike for Burnham concerts group prompts funding plea

-

The group behind four open air music festivals in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have this week requested £2,500 of grant funding from the Town Council.

Mike Murphy, Chairman of the organising group CADS (Burnham and Highbridge Cultural Arts and Development Society), spoke at this week’s Policy and Finance Committee meeting.

He explained to the committee that 2014 was the busiest year for CADS and they ended the year with a surplus of £2,519 in the bank.

However, he added that insurance costs had soared from around £60 per year due to around £1,000 due to the number of people that the popular events attract.

He added that he did not intend to apply for funding in 2016 and that he hoped to revert to using the insurance offered by Sedgemoor District Council from 2016.

The grant for £2,500 attracted support from committe members, but will be voted on by town councillors at their meeting in September.

The next CADS event will be held in Highbridge on 2nd August.
