Burnham-On-Sea’s MP took a brief break from the election campaign on Thursday (April 8th) to support Highbridge Dreamscheme’s latest project.
David Heathcoat-Amory dropped in at Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll to visit dozens of young people from the Dreamscheme who were planting up hanging baskets to be distributed around Highbridge.
Peter Burks, General Manager of Sanders Garden World, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our horticultural staff helped the youngsters to plant red, white and blue flowers in 100 baskets to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.”
“After one month, the baskets will be distributed to houses and shops along Church Street and Market Street in Highbridge to help with the town’s Britain in Bloom efforts. We have also donated £600 towards the cost of the baskets.”
The mission of the Dreamscheme Network is to inspire and enable communities across the world to realise the potential of their young people. Youngsters who complete work projects can earn points to spend on trips and sporting activities of their choice.
The Highbridge Dreamscheme was set up in January 2009 by Police Community Support Officers in partnership with the Local Action Team for Highbridge. There are now more than 100 young people involved in the scheme, who have collectively completed more than 1,300 hours of community work in Highbridge.
