Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and a lifeboat crew were called out on Sunday evening (April 11th) after a yacht grounded and lost power in Bridgwater Bay.
The 20ft ‘Dreamer’ was towed to the safety of Burnham Sailing Club’s pontoons in the River Brue by a member of the club.
The alarm had been raised at 5.39pm, prompting the launch of a lifeboat and the attendance of the Coastguard team as a precaution.
A fellow yachtsman had spotted the yacht attempting to sail from the eastern side of Stert Island at the top of the tide. Swansea Coastguard control were notified and it was decided to launch the lifeboat.
Another yachtsman had managed to pass a line to the casualty and tow her clear from trouble and the lifeboat crew was therefore quickly stood down.
Lifeboat Helmsman Jason Coombes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We reached the yacht as it was about the enter the River Brue. Having confirmed their status, we returned to the beach.”
