Thousands of young people flocked to Highbridge’s Apex Park for its popular Playday on Wednesday (August 5th).
Over 8,000 people attended the annual event, which organisers have hailed as a big success.
The free event saw over 40 activities and attractions set up, encouraging families to spend time together outdoors, while exploring the park.
Rosie Pike, Chair of the Playday Committee, thanked everyone who supported the event, saying: “It is because of the hard work and effort of the Playday committee and volunteers, Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group and Sedgemoor District Council staff that every Playday is such a roaring success for all visitors, whatever their age.”
This year’s activities included model boats, face painters, inflatables, a climbing wall, drumming, paddleboards, zorbs, dancing and paint balling amongst many others.
There were also displays of animals, including this huge slippery snake.
Sedgemoor’s Parks budget contributes £2,500 towards the event with Sedgemoor staff also attending to marshal on the day. Sedgemoor staff also helped the organising committee with key tasks in the months before the event.
Somerset County Councillors Peter Burridge-Clayton and John Woodman each contributed £1,000 to support this year’s event from their member-held Health and Wellbeing project funds.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council also contributed a grant of £1250, Somerset Freemasons gave £1,000, Brean Play at Brean Leisure Park £400, and Somerset Play Forum £300.
