Seven rescued fox cubs are moving ever closer to a life back in the wild, thanks to carers at Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea.
The video footage below shows the cubs getting their first taste of the outdoors in a heart-warming moment at the rescue centre in East Huntspill.
The seven orphans display their individual personalities as they move into their grassy ‘pre-release’ pen for the first time.
The friends – named Ed, Piran, Rufus, Rueben, Rory, Reamus and Demelza by staff – are seven of over thirty rescued fox cubs being rehabilitated at Secret World this year.
After being hand-reared, they have spent time in an indoor pen, before being released into a large outdoor enclosure.
The young foxes stay in pre-release pens for several weeks, developing their natural behaviours and socialising outdoors without the interference of humans.
Laura Benfield, Head of Animal Care at Secret World, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The next stage is to make sure their release site is ready. This all takes a lot of work but it’s worth it for the chance to give these little foxes a life back in the wild where they belong.”
“Rearing fox cubs and preparing them for release takes time, care and money. We’re appealing for donations to help us get Ed, Piran and friends back home to the wild this summer.”
