Several inches of snow blanketed Burnham-On-Sea on Friday, causing school closures, slippery roads and public transport disruption.

Three inches of snow fell during the day, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and pedestrians, as pictured here.

However, staff from Sedgemoor District Council and the Town Council kept the disruption to a minimum by gritting key roads in Burnham town centre and clearing away snow along the High Street.

Some train services from Highbridge Railway Station were delayed on Friday morning, while bus services were also disrupted.

Some of the snow started to melt this afternoon, but by 4pm many minor roads still had a coating of slush and snow which will freeze again overnight and cause further slippery conditions on Saturday.

A Met Office spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Snowfall will become increasingly patchy overnight, with snow becoming lighter and more intermittent in general, with the biting wind gradually easing.”
