Burnham runner gets Royal encounter during London Marathon effort

-

Well-known Burnham-On-Sea runner Jason Vickers has raised more than £2,300 for charity by completing the London Marathon – and he even had an encounter with Royalty during the event.

Jason, who works at Burnham’s Tesco supermarket, ran Sunday’s marathon in a time of five hours and 36 minutes.

The plucky runner, who has suffered from Crohn’s Disease for the past 17 years, told Burnham-On-Sea.com how he bumped into several famous people during the event, including Princess Beatrice, who was also running.

“We exchanged a few words about how hot it was to be running and then she gave me her bottle of water! It was a very kind gesture,” he said.

Jason also saw Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle during his memorable fundraising run.

“I’m knackered, but enjoyed every minute of it,” he said. “It felt as though I’d run a marathon and a half because of all the people I had to dodge between during the run!”

Jason beat his 2006 time of six hours and 19 minutes by almost three quarters of an hour.

By completing the race, he raised a bumper £2,362 for charity. This year, he was raising funds for both the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the RNLI.
