Fishing tackle warning from beach warden after sea bird is injured

Anglers have been warned not to discard unwanted fishing tackle in the sea or on local beaches.

Brean beachwarden Dave Furber made the plea on Thursday after he and a member of the public had to cut free a seagull that had become tangled up in fishing lines and hooks.

He explained: “The bird was in a poor state, tangled up in the fishing tackle, but we managed to free it without any injury. It serves as a usual reminder to local and visiting anglers about the potential danger to people and animals of leaving fishing tackle.”

“I’d also like to thank the beach walker, Catherine Taylor Grom, who noticed the bird and helped free it.”
