Second arson blaze this week at Highbridge Hotel site

-

Burnham-On-Sea firefighters have been tackling a SECOND deliberate blaze of the week at the rear of the former Highbridge Hotel.

Two fire crews rushed to the site at 7pm on Tuesday evening (May 4th), as pictured here, just 24 hours after they battled another deliberate blaze at the same location.

Water jets were used to bring the flames and smoke under control amid concern that it could spread to nearby hedges.

The first fire occurred on Monday evening, as first reported here, which means there have now been five arson incidents in the town in the last three weeks.

Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com today: “What these youngsters are doing is very dangerous and we would urge them to stop.”

“Anyone who has seen anything suspicious should get in contact with the police via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to give us further information.”

He added: “The re-development of the hotel site has taken longer than many in the community expected and we have spoken with the council and developer about it.”

“The level of police patrols in the area is already very high and we will continue to closely monitor the area.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported on another deliberate fire at the former hotel site on April 15th. Seperately, a fence was set alight on April 20th when a car was damaged in an attack near the town’s Bank Street Car Park.
