Town’s new MP gets to work within hours of election

-

Burnham’s freshly-elected MP Tessa Munt wasted no time in getting straight down to work on Friday (May 7th) when she made a special visit to a Highbridge community hall within hours of being voted in.

Tessa visited Highbridge’s Morland Hall where she discussed current issues affecting the facilities with residents and leaders from the Sedgemoor Community Partnership.

Richard Mathews, Chairman of Sedgemoor Community Partnership, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Tessa felt the Highbridge Morland Estate was a priority starting point and discussed the current issues affecting Morland Hall with myself, in addition to local issues concerning the newly-formed Highbridge Residents Association.”

“Tessa got straight down to work and has promised to conduct some of her regular surgeries bi-monthly from the Morland Hall.”

She was presented with a bouquet of flowers from members of Highbridge Residents Association (pictured top) to congratulate her on her win.

Earlier in the day, the hall also hosted a visit by the High Sheriffs of Somerset – Pat Hunt and John Alvis MBE – along with Justin Sargent, Director of Somerset’s Community Foundation.

The informal visit was held to discuss progress on grant funding given by Somerset Community Foundation to Sedgemoor Community Partnership.

Mr Mathews told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The guests discussed the overall schemes and projects, viewed the area, and visited the community cafe.”

“Important new local initiatives were discussed and SCP are looking for a partner group to extend the training and community projects anticipated to be undertaken now that their lease with SDC has in principle been secured.”
