Monarchs Gymnastics Club opens its new base in Highbridge

-

Highbridge’s Monarchs Gymnastics Club celebrated the official opening of its new premises on Sunday (January 27th).

The long-running club opened its brand new HQ at Unit 1B in Brue Way on the Walrow Industrial Estate during a special open morning attended by dozens of youngsters.

The Monarchs also received a Mayor’s Community Award from Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Ken Smout and club founder member Cllr Neville Jones, who are pictured above with Head Coach Tony Merrett.

Monarchs coach Mandy Warburton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our old premises at King Alfred School had restricted height, which meant some gymnasts were not able to train to their full potential.”

“This building is an excellent base with a far higher roof and better facilities. We are excited to have moved in and thank everyone who has pitched in to help to get it ready.”

She added: “The work does not stop here, though. We are hoping to introduce new heating in the building soon and need to raise aroud £6,000 so would be very interested in hearing from anyone who can help us.”

Mayor Ken Smout praised the “very strong community spirit” at the club and said it is very deserving of a Mayor’s Community Award.
