A fox cub that was rescued from a dog is making a great recovery at a wildlife rescue centre near Burnham-On-Sea.
The cub, named Marion, is being given round-the-clock care by staff at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill.
A member of the public took the fox cub to a local veterinary practice after it was found by her dog, cowering next to a shed in a garden in Clevedon.
At the time of discovery, the fox cub was only one week old and its eyes were not yet open.
One of Secret World’s volunteer response drivers collected it from the practice and brought it to the charity’s centre for rehabilitation.
After continuing to build up its strength with the help of the charity’s animal carers, the fox cub has begun to make progress.
One of the carers looking after Marion is Dan Bryant, pictured here, who told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two weeks on she’s making great progress. Her eyes have just opened and she is feeding well, enthusiastically guzzling the milk from the bottle and making contented squeaks.”
“Marion is quite a late baby. We usually see fox cubs born around March, so to have one in April is unusual.”
“The cub will continue to be bottle-fed until she puts on a bit more weight. Once off the bottle, she will be then fed with meat and milk until she is strong enough to feed by herself. We’ll then assess her and decide what the next step will be.”
“We have a number of fox cubs currently being cared for on site, but they are older than Marion so we’ve not yet decided whether she will join them.”
