Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out to search for a missing person on Saturday night (May 15th).
A woman in her 40s was reported to be in a ‘distressed state’ and had last been seen in the vicinity of Uphill Sailing Club next to the River Axe.
“Coastguard teams from Burnham and Weston searched the beach and river bank between 10.30pm and 12.20am without any sighting of the missing woman being found,” a Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“No-one was found and the matter was left in the hands of the police to conduct an inland search.”
It is understood that the missing person was later found safely.
