A pot of £4,500 has been shared by fifteen good causes in Burnham-On-Sea this week as the town’s carnival committee handed out the proceeds of last year’s collection.
Carnival President Malcolm Borland and Carnival Treasurer John Hodgson handed over the cheques at the Ritz Social Club to representatives of those groups who helped with street collections at last November’s event, as pictured.
The groups benefiting included Burnham Lions (£1,800), Weston Lions (£100), Cheltenham Lions (£100), Fei Lung Kwan (£300), PGH Schools (£200), Round Table (£100), Home Start (£100), Oasis CC (£200), Fostering Recruitment (£100), Burnham Community Centre (£150), Burnham in Bloom (£100), Banwell Harriers (£100), Rotary Club (£750), Total Conservation (£100) and YHA Elloway (£300).
Malcom thanked the organisations for their support, adding: “We are very grateful for the help of these local groups in assisting us with collections, without whom we would not have a carnival. We rely on volunteers for marshalling and collecting.”
