Berrow’s rescheduled village fayre will take place this Saturday (June 5th) after heavy winds caused the event’s postponement last month.
High winds damaged marquees and tents on the village’s playing field, as pictured and reported here, leaving them strewn in trees and hedges.
The event has therefore been rearranged for Saturday, between 11.30am and 4pm on the Red Road Playing Fields.
Co-organiser Lynn Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, we were really unlucky with the original Fayre, which had been arranged for 2nd May, and had to be cancelled at the last minute.”
“Strong winds overnight on the Saturday had blown down all of the gazebos and tents, which had been erected that afternoon, and three were damaged too badly to repair.”
“We therefore took the decision on the Sunday morning that, with no shelter to offer anybody, and the wind still very strong, making it impossible to try to re-erect the gazebos, the Fayre should be postponed.”
“We are hoping that the rearranged date will turn out to be a lovely sunny day and lots of people will come and support us. Last year’s event was very well attended and the money raised exceeded £5,500.00. It would be brilliant if we could beat that amount this time.”
“This year we have invited Richard House, the owner of Brean Leisure Park, to open the Fayre for us. We have lots going on, including displays by the Heavens Gate Dog
Team, our local Kung Fu group and the Lucy Gunter School of Dance. A local band, Nite Shift, will be playing and there will be a talk by Secret World Animal Rescue who will be bringing some animals along with them.”
“We have lots of stalls selling various products and there will be traditional games to play. There will be classic cars and bikes and stationary engines. There will be a beer tent, tea tent, barbeque and various other food stalls.”
The entrance fee will be £1 for a family ticket and there is free parking on the playing fields.
The Fayre is organised by the Berrow Community Association’s Entertainment Team and all proceeds will go towards the Berrow Village Hall Project, which is the refurbishment and extension of the much-loved Village Hall.
