Over 330 athletes from across the country completed Burnham-On-Sea’s grueling annual triathlon on Sunday morning (June 6th).
The event, now in its 24th year, was staged in brilliant sunshine and was watched by spectators along the route.
Iain Hindes from North Devon Triathletes won the event – which comprised of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run – in a fast time of one hour and 32 seconds.
In second place was Daniel Whaites from Cardiff who was just 12 seconds behind, and the first lady home was Ceeli Miall from West Country Tri in a time of one hour, seven minutes and seven seconds.
Mark Cox-Conkin, from Burnham-On-Sea Swim and Sports Academy, which oversaw the race, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had our largest ever turnout of competitors and are really pleased with how everything went.”
“There were some very fast times despite the soft sand on the beach, which resuled in some running times being slower than normal.”
He added: “We are grateful to everyone who helped organise the event, including the 40 volunteers who marshalled the route.”
The event’s trophies and awards were presented to the winners by Cllr Neville Jones, who has been present at every event over the last 24 years.
