Shrub cleared from Berrow dunes by conservation volunteers

-

Berrow’s sand dunes were given a big clean-up by a group of conservation volunteers on Sunday (February 24th).

More than a dozen volunteers from Bristol University Conservation Group made their annual visit to the nature reserve to undertake sea buckthorn scrub clearance.

“Since its introduction less than a century ago, the sea buckthorn has spread over about half of the reserve, leading to the loss of much of the species-rich grassland habitat,” Sedgemoor District Council’s landscape officer Janette Burton told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The reserve is owned and managed by the council and is included within the Berrow Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
