Proposals for new Burnham-On-Sea museum under consideration

-

New plans for a museum to be set up in Burnham-On-Sea have been unveiled this week.

Burnham Town Team is investigating whether a museum could be introduced in the town centre to showcase the town’s colourful history.

Mike Young, right, who is a member of the group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Burnham has a long and proud history with plenty of heritage and there should be a place to show it in its full glory.”

“There’s lots of material available – photos, memorabilia and film footage – of past events, places and buildings which would make fascinating displays.”

“Highbridge’s brickworks, Burnham’s railway and the area’s tourism history could be just a few of the subjects brought back to life at a museum.”

The proposal is under consideration by Burnham’s Town Team and Mike is appealing for businesses and local historical groups to get in touch if they would like to be involved.

“The museum could well start small, possibly inside a shop or business in the town centre initially, before increasing in size to a dedicated home if it proves a success.”

Burnham’s former Job Centre building in the High Street, which is currently vacant, was previously considered as a location for a museum but the high costs ruled it out.
