The shocked driver of this car had a dramatic escape in Brent Knoll this week after losing control of his vehicle, rolling down a railway embankment, and finishing upturned.
Burnham-On-Sea police were called to Station Road after the damaged Ford Escort Convertible was spotted at the bottom of a steep bank next to the railway track, as exclusively pictured here.
Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The damaged car was found at the bottom of the bank after the driver lost control. No injuries were reported.”
Brent Knoll district councillor Bob Filmer said the accident highlights the need for the bridge to be approached with caution.
“This bridge doesn’t have a bad accident record because most motorists use it slowly due to its narrow width and poor visibility,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We did get the village’s 30mph speeding restriction extended to cover the bridge several years ago due to the speed of traffic here in the summer months.”
He added: “There are lips in the road surface on both sides of the bridge following the recent strengthening work and if the bridge is driven at speed, a car could take off and leave the road.”
The car was barely visible at the bottom of the railway bank following this week’s accident in Brent Knoll, where the driver was lucky to escape uninjured
