A student from Highbridge’s King Alfred School has won a nationwide short story writing competition.
Award-winning author Chris Bradford set schoolchildren a writing challenge earlier this year and Year 8 student Sophie Fenegan, pictured, has won the short story writing competition.
The pupils were asked to complete an ending to a short story named ‘Rockface’ and thousands of children from across the UK took part, including more than 100 King Alfred School students.
Sophie Fenegan was one of the young hopefuls.
Last month, Sophie received an email congratulating her for her “imaginative and detailed” entry. She had won first place and a prize of an Essential Den Kit and books for the school.
Chris Bradford added: “My first place winner is Sophie Fenegan. Great development of the story, a strong layering of tension, a surprising romantic twist and a brilliant ‘cliffhanger’ ending. Definitely makes me want to read on!”
