Couple in race against time and tide on Brean beach

-

A Bridgwater couple had a race against time on their hands when their car came close to becoming the latest victim of the fast-incoming tide at Brean today (Sunday, June 20th).

Gordon and Teresa Cresswell had parked their Nissan Primera on the beach and then gone for a walk on top of Brean Down without realising how quickly the tide comes in.

It was only when they started to walk back along the top of the Down at around 1pm that they noticed their car was already surrounded by sea water, as pictured here.

“It was a shock when we came over the hill and saw the car in trouble with the sea around it,” Gordon told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It took me just three minutes to run down the steps and get inside to drive it away.”

He added: “The water was already lapping around the doors when I got to it. If I’d been a few minutes later, it would have a different story.”

“This will hopefully serve as a warning to other drivers about the danger of the tides here.”
