Dozens of local people have welcomed a new project to revitalise Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront and parts of the town centre.
Members of the ‘Burnham Evolution’ project team attended the town’s Food Festival on Saturday where a stand was set up in Princess Street to give more information about the ambitious project and fill in surveys.
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com here earlier this month, Sedgemoor District Council, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Burnham Chamber of Trade and Litter Free Somerset have teamed up to work on the new project that aims to make the town more attractive for visitors and residents.
Tatiana Cant, Town Clerk, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had lots of good engagement from locals during the Food Festival – there was lots of positivity from people keen to see change.”
“Many want to see the town brighter and more welcoming – there were some great ideas put forward which we’ll consider for our funding bid.”

Burnham Evolution will consist of a porogramme of mini projects delivering improvements in different areas of the town.
Tatiana explained: “The aim is to revitalise the town by providing enhancements to the Esplanade to make the seafront more attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors.”
“The project will also include the renovation of the Princess Theatre which is a heavily used community space but needs to be modernised and freshened up to make it a more appealing facility.”
“Burnham residents will benefit from an increase in the number of people who spend time and money in the town as there will be more to see and do. We also hope that these improvements will restore a sense of civic pride in the community.”
“The Town Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a business plan in order to apply for grants from the Coastal Community and Hinkley funds. This will be a significant investment to enhance the town and make it a better place to live, work and visit.”
The team were at Burnham-On-Sea Farmers Market in the High Street on Friday and then also at the Food Festival during the consultation phase.
