Turbines will be like ‘alien invaders’ claim wind farm protesters

-

A group of angry protesters who are fighting proposals for a new wind farm in West Huntspill have this week issued this new photo montage showing the size of the huge wind turbines which, they claim, will appear like ‘alien invaders’ in the Somerset countryside.

The group claims that the computer-generated image illustrates what the 79m tall turbines would look like if they are built by energy firm Ecotricity on land next to the Huntspill River.

Campaigner Julie Trott from West Huntspill told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Photomontages provided by Ecotricity to date have shown various views of the site, however, these have all been taken from advantageous points, such as from elevated positions like Puriton Hill or from a considerable distance away.”

“Such photomontages do not show the true scale of how these huge industrial machines will dominate the landscape and people living nearby.”

“Local residents have been given a misleading picture of how the wind farm proposed for The Huntspills will look.”

“It is obvious that when taken from elevated positions the photomontages created will show a more sympathetic view, whereas, in reality, it will not be unlike living under the ‘Alien Invaders’ from H G Well’s ‘War of the Worlds’.”

Julie added: “Our image, though, has been taken from the bridge over the River Huntspill, on the A38 at base level.”

“Due to the large financial benefits they stand to gain, there is a seemingly head-long rush by companies and landowners to install wind turbines in any available position, regardless of the impact on quality of life, the environment and local wildlife.”

“Therefore, although you may not be directly affected by the proposed Huntspill wind farms, beware, turbines may soon be coming to a field by you.”

Ecotricity recently claimed that if the plans are approved, its wind farm would generate enough electricity to power over 7,810 homes and save over 11,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
