Colourful kites filled the skies over Berrow beach over the weekend as Beachside Holiday Park hosted a kite festival for the first time.

The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s Kite Festival teamed up with the holiday park to hold the event from June 2nd-3rd.

The festival had two busy days, with hundreds of visitors launching their kites into the blue skies above the beach and holiday park, as pictured here.

Crafters, stalls, displays and a children’s flying area were laid on, alongside races and competitions.

At Beachside Holiday Park, novice kite flyers were able to try out their skills in the ‘Learn to Fly’ area before making their way to the main display field.

Team Flame, UK National Sport Kite Team champions, performed on both days at the festival with some impressive demonstrations of their skills.

There was also a display of Kite Buggy Racing and huge inflatable kites from Avon Kite Flyers.

Jane Macpherson, from organising group Burnham-On-Sea Events (BOS Events), said: “We wanted people to have the chance to try kiting for themselves and to teach those who come the safety rules for flying.”

“We’ve been into our local schools doing workshops with the children, making kites and there were also competitions for those who have practised and turn up with their kite.”

The European buggy kite racing champions showed off their skills at a buggy kite racing course on the beach during the weekend.

The UK National Sport Kite Team champions, Flame, also did demonstrations at an open arena on the beach.

On Saturday evening, there was a traditional fish and chip supper and an illuminated kite display.

The Sundowner pub provided music and entertainment during the weekend to accompany the event.
