Today: Berrow farm opens gates to visitors on ‘Open Farm Sunday’

-

Berrow Beef & Lamb is to open their farm gates to visitors for ‘Open Farm Sunday’ on 10th June to show the world of farming.

As well as being a fun and informative day out for all the family, the event from 11am-4pm gives visitors an opportunity to see at first-hand all that farmers do and the impact their work has on all our lives.

Berrow Beef & Lamb is based at Faircott Farm, Brent Road, TA8 2JU (Between the Berrow Triangle and the medical centre). It will open from 11am until 4pm with free admission.

On the day you can see cows, sheep, adorable lambs and poultry. There will also be guided tours of the farm and leading informative nature walks in the fresh air, with tractor and trailer rides.

For the lovers of tractors and farm machinery, there will also be static machines to admire and have a selfie with, plus demonstrations including hay baling and bale wrapping. Local fencing expert Ian Morgan will be demonstrating his skills.

There will also be demonstrations of how sheep shearing is done, giving visitors insight into how the animals are cared for.

Refreshments are available to buy on site and include Berrow Beef and Lamb BBQ, homemade cakes and a range of drinks.

The event is promoted nationwide as ‘LEAF Open Farm Sunday’ managed by Linking Environment And Farming. It has become one of the farming industry’s biggest success stories – since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, over 1500 farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed 1.8 million people onto their farm for one Sunday each year.

“Please ask questions and chat with our lovely volunteers; we are all looking forward to sharing our knowledge, experience & passion for farming and related activities with you,” said a spokesperson.

“We are easy to spot as we are all wearing either high vis jackets, Open Farm Sunday tops, or ‘ask me’ badges. Also, don’t hesitate to let one of us know if you require any additional assistance during the day.”

“You will notice collection buckets around the farm and in the car park. Please give generously if you can. All donations are going directly to two charities close to our hearts that do fantastic work in our immediate area – BARB Search and Rescue and RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Fund).”

Toilets & handwashing facilities are in the main yard. Please remember to wash your hands if you touch any livestock and always before eating.

Bins for waste and recycling are clearly labelled, please use them and avoid dropping any form of rubbish or litter on the ground.
