Man arrested after stolen motor homes found in Burnham

-

A man has been arrested after the discovery of two stolen motor homes in Burnham-On-Sea this week.

The vehicles had been stolen from Staffordshire and were identified by ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras installed in the town.

Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the man is expected to be charged with theft shortly.

The arrest came on the same day as a national operation to clamp down on doorstep criminals. The ‘rogue trader day’ was held across the region on June 30th by police and trading standards officers.

Safety advice leaflets were handed out by police officers in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

The day of action was part of an ongoing campaign by a joint team of police and trading standards officers to combat rogue traders as well as distraction burglars and make the public more aware of them so people can look out for their neighbours and families.

Supt Trevor Margenout, who is the police lead on doorstep crime, said: “This type of crime is very callous as the criminals target the elderly and vulnerable members of our community and can cheat their victims out of thousands of pounds.”

“Our advice to people is not to accept any offer of work on the spot from a cold caller. If you are thinking of having work done, we advise people to always get three quotes from reputable companies and ask friends or family for their recommendations.”
