‘Despicable’ youths ran over cat, then played football with it

-

A shocked resident in Burnham-On-Sea has told police how he saw a group of youths run over a cat with a car and then start playing football with its body.

The resident – who has asked to remain anonymous – told police how the white-coloured animal was run over in Stoddens Road at around 1am last Thursday (July 1st) by a Renault Clio containing three men.

After stopping the vehicle, they then began kicking the animal along the road as though it were a ball, even though it was unclear whether the animal was fully dead at the time.

Burnham Police Inspector Roger Tolley said this week the incident was a “despicable” act and he urged anyone who saw the incident to call Burnham Police via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The resident says the men were believed to be aged in their late teens or early 20s.
