Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor was among the local residents helping to raise money for the Royal Air Forces Association during a special coffee morning in the town on Saturday (July 10th).
The Burnham branch of the RAFA organised the “Brew for the Few” event at The Railway pub in the High Street to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Refreshments were provided for a small sum towards the Wings Appeal Charity. Burnham’s Mayor Michael Clarke and his wife, Mayoress Maria Clarke, gave their support.
Organiser Brian Mudge told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A series of fundraising tea and coffee events have been held across the UK to raise money for the RAF Association’s work of supporting current and former RAF personnel and their families.”
He added that the ‘Brew for the Few’ initiative is named after Churchill’s famous speech which referred to “never in the field of human conflict was much owed by so many to so few”, commemorating the bravery of RAF personnel in WWII.
