Plans for new Highbridge Co-Op store in Morland Road are delayed

-

Plans for a new Co-Op store in Highbridge on the corner of Morland Road and Burnham Road have been delayed, it has emerged.

The supermarket giant said last year that it planned to open its new convenience store in ‘summer 2018’, and advertising boards at the site confirmed this, as pictured above.

However, building work has not yet started and the chain has taken down the promotional signs.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, spokeswoman Vicki Przytocki said: “I can confirm that there has been a delay with the Highbridge project. However, as soon as we have confirmed the new building schedule, the signs will go back up to advertise the forthcoming store.”

The land was previously occupied by the former Morlands Industrial Park, which shut in October 2014.

Once open, it will be the second Co-Op in the town, with the main supermarket remaining just off Market Street.

The new Highbridge Co-Op will be similar in size to the Co-Op store in Berrow which opened last year.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported here in July that a revised planning application for the Morland Road site had been unveiled and consent was given.
