Burnham-On-Sea tennis club announces children’s courses

With the build-up to Wimbledon underway, Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club has announced a series of tennis courses aimed at encouraging local children into the sport.

The club, based in The Grove, is holding eight courses over the summer to teach youngsters aged 4-11 the basics of tennis with the ultimate aim of increasing the numbers playing the game.

Avenue Tennis Club coaches Barry Ramsden and Wendy Pryce have recently attended British LTA courses in order to get specialised training on providing the six-hour tennis courses.

The Avenue Tennis Club is fully committed to the LTA’s 2018 initiative and set up 13 courses for the various age groups on varying days in order to give parents more choice. Two courses were completed in May, three are currently running and a further eight are due to be run.

The sessions will be held on the following dates:

30th Jun to 4th Aug – Saturdays from 9 till 10 for 8 to 9 year olds

30th Jun to 4th Aug – Saturdays from 10 till 11 for 6 to 8 year olds

30th Jun to 4th Aug – Saturdays from 11 till 12 for 9 to 11 year olds

4th Sep to 9th Oct – Tuesdays from 6 till 7 for 9 to 11 year olds

5th Sep to 10th Oct – Wednesdays from 4 till 5 for 6 to 8 year olds

10th Sep to 15th Oct – Mondays from 4 till 5 for 4 to 5 year olds

10th Sep to 15th Oct – Mondays from 5 till 6 for 6 to 8 year olds

10th Sep to 15th Oct – Mondays from 6 till 7 for 9 to 8 year olds

These courses can only be booked via https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/tennisforkids but if there are any issues with booking then drop in and see the coaches at The Avenue for help.

The Avenue Tennis Club has eight floodlit tennis courts and a clubhouse with a bar, wi-fi and changing facilities for all. More details are online.

The club has a month’s free membership offer available for anyone who wants to try out tennis and the club before joining.

Qualified coaches provide coaching throughout the week for all ages and abilities. There are various social tennis sessions organised throughout the week where you can just turn up and play with other members or for those who want competitive tennis there are two women’s and three men’s teams who compete in the North Somerset Tennis League.
