More than £1,000 was raised towards the cost of repairing a church roof in Burnham-On-Sea during a well-attended summer fete on Saturday (July 24th).
A crowd of supporters flocked to the town’s St Andrew’s Church for an afternoon of fun activities to raise money for the £12,500 replacement of its lead roof which was struck by thieves in June.
Reverened Graham Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very good afternoon. We are very pleased that a sum of £1,100 was raised towards the cost of carrying out repairs to our roof.”
“The fete was a great success. The weather allowed traditional childrens activities to be held outside, while the new layout inside allowed space for music, a raffle and other entertainment.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report in June how mean thieves had stolen a large amount of lead from the roof of the church. The valuable metal was pinched from the northern roof of the building.
