Inspectors praise food standards at Burnham-On-Sea Hospital

-

National inspectors have this week praised standards for patients at Burnham-On-Sea’s War Memorial Hospital.

Every year, the National Patient Safety Agency publishes comparative information showing the standards across a range of patient services.

These include food, infection control, cleanliness, and patient environments such as bathroom areas, décor, lighting, floors and access.

Each of England’s 1,242 hospitals is given a rating for its environment, food and privacy and dignity, ranging from ‘poor’ to ‘excellent’.

Burnham has been rated as ‘Good’ for its environment, ‘Excellent’ for its food and ‘Good’ for privacy and dignity.

Burnham Hospital Matron Chere Turberville told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The quality of hospital food is often the target of unfair criticism, but a rating of ‘excellent’ by the National Patient Safety Agency for the food we provide to patients is a tremendous achievement and one which catering staff and our suppliers can be truly proud of.”

In Somerset, all the county’s community hospitals achieved ‘good’ for their standards of cleanliness, decor and infection control.

Community hospitals at Wellington, Williton, Bridgwater and Dene Barton rated ‘excellent’ for their standards of privacy and dignity shown to patients.

And all 12 achieved the highest ‘excellent’ rating for the quality of food provided to patients.
