National Play Day to be celebrated at Highbridge’s Apex Park

-

Children and families are being invited to celebrate National Play Day at a special event in Highbridge’s Apex Park today (Wednesday, August 4th).

The free annual event at Apex Park will take place from 10am–3pm.

Organisers say it promises to be bigger and better than ever, with more than 35 activities on offer.

“They include a climbing wall, forest school, willow sculptures, drumming workshops, inflatable’s, Native American crafts, circus skills, clay workshops, canoeing, archery and more,” district council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The event is being funded by Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset Play Forum, Sedgemoor’s Childrens Centres and North Sedgemoor’s Locality Team. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be available to buy or families can bring their own picnics.

“Since the Government’s recent announcement that funding for play is to be cut the Play Day Committee, which relies heavily on grants for the event to take place, welcomes donations into a bucket which will be located at the ice cream van so the event can continue in 2011,” added Mrs Faun.
