Dozens of visitors from Burnham-On-Sea’s German twin town have been given a formal send-off at a civic dinner attended by local dignitaries.
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor and Mayoress Michael and Maria Clarke plus local councillors attended Thursday’s dinner at the Batch Country Hotel in Lympsham, as pictured, where the 37 visitors from Fritzlar were bid a fond farewell.
The group arrived last Monday on a five day visit in which they dropped in at several groups in Burnham and Highbridge.
A representative group from Fritzlar’s Karate Club also trained with the Burnham-On-Sea Karate Club on Wednesday at King Alfred School.
The group also enjoyed a night of skittles and entertainment at the Oak Tree Arena in Highbridge, pictured below.
Each of the guests at Thursday’s meal was paid for from the Society’s fundraising events throughout the year, while members paid for themselves.
The Fritzlar Twinning Society has been in existence for over 20 years and aims to maintain and develop Burnham and Highbridge’s relationship with Fritzlar, a historic town in the German region of Hessen.
The Society’s Jenny Golding told Burnham-On-Sea.com the visit had been “very enjoyable and a great success.”
New members to the group are always welcome and can contact her here.
