A walker who suffered a suspected broken ankle in a fall on top of Brean Down on Thursday (October 29th) was rescued by a medical team using this special multi-terrain ambulance.
The elderly lady was taken to Weston General Hospital after ambulance crews required the unique vehicle to reach her from a remote part of Brean Down.
Ambulance spokeswoman Claire Warner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to a lady in her 80s who’d slipped while walking. We sent an ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).”
“The crew were driven onto Brean Down by Brean’s beach warden and the HART team deployed their all-terrain vehicle, called Polaris, to safely take the lady off the Down to a waiting ambulance.”
It was understood to be the first time that the special multi-terrain ambulance has been used for an incident at Brean Down.
The steep road onto the Down is not suitable for normal ambulances and with leaves making the surface slippery it is unsuited to them.
