Burnham-On-Sea Fire crews praise hero who saved lady from this burning car

-

Fire crews have praised a ‘heroic’ member of the public for saving the life of a pensioner who was stuck in this burning car following an accident near Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday night (July 31st).

Fire crews from Burnham rushed to the Mark Causeway at 10.13pm after the elderly lady’s car careered off the road, toppled over a gate and into a field where it caught fire.

“Upon arrival, the crews confirmed there was one vehicle well alight,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

He added: “If it was not for the heroic actions of a member of public, who pulled the casualty from the car fire before the arrival of the fire service, the crews would have been dealing with a fatality at this incident.”

“Crews extinguished the fire with one hose reel jet and a compressed air foam branch.”

The casualty, who suffered from shock and smoke inhalation, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The car was severely damaged by fire, along with an area of hedgerow and grass. Police diverted traffic around the scene while the emergency crews were on scene.
