The parents of Dylan Cecil, the four-year-old boy who died after falling into the sea in Burnham last August, have launched a Memorial Fund to help raise money to benefit under-privileged children.
Crowds of people turned out this week to watch a convoy of colourful cars cruise around Kettering this week to mark the launch.
More than 50 cars took part in the car cruise from Wellingborough to Kettering, where Dylan lived, in a bid to raise cash for the newly-formed fund.
The convoy was led by three cars modified to look like Lightning McQueen from the children’s film Cars, which was one of Dylan’s favourite films. Owner Michelle Barrow used to live near Dylan’s family, and modified the car as a tribute to him.
Dylan drowned after falling from Burnham’s jetty into Bridgwater Bay on August 19th last year, sparking a huge search operation by the town’s Coastguards, lifeboat and hovercraft crews. His body was found washed up four days later. An inquest was held in February into the tragedy when West Somerset’s coroner recorded an accidental verdict.
