Burnham-On-Sea’s Pantomime Society is celebrating winning a host of awards at the recent Cinderella Awards which shine a spotlight on the region’s best drama productions.
The Burnham group acheived 12 nominations – including Best Theatre design for Mo Cooper and members; Best comedy duo for Greg Fear and Rob Manlow as Cockle & Winkle; Theatre Stage Management for Gavin Holman and stage crew; and Principal boy for Emma Twigg.
The other nominations included Junior team for the Junior chorus; Properties for Nettie Manlow and Jules Keep; Best villain to Chris Bissell; Make-up for Katie Shephard; and Eddy Bowker for outstanding performance to Chris Bissell.
The winners were Best Male singer for Chris Bissell, Best Stage Lighting led by Mike Muscaty and members, and Best Animal for Katie Shephard.
The group’s Gavin Holman said: “Following the success of winning the Cinderella trophy in the 2016/2017 competition the 2017/2018 production of Robinson Crusoe always had a tough act to follow.”
“Led under the guidance of director Lorna Blair, the cast was auditioned in July 2017 with a long road ahead of them for the production in January 2018.”
“The cast and crew set about planning the sets the theatre design and lighting over several months lading up to the production which was enjoyed by over 1,200 people who traveled from all around to see.”
“During the show, the Somerset Federation of Drama attended two performances to judge our efforts against other societies around the south west from which we were proud to be awarded no less than twelve nominations of which we won three categories.”
The Society are now busy planning to celebrate 50 years of Pantomime with their 2019 Production of Cinderella which will take place in January at the town’s Princess Theatre.
“Anyone who would like to get involved is more than welcome to come along to one of our meetings which take place on the first Tuesday of the month at the Princess Theatre from 7.45pm (no meeting in August) or if you fancy auditioning these will take place on the 15th & 16th again at the Princess Theatre from 7pm.”
