ITV has announced that former Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge school pupil George Shelley will be one of the competitors on this year’s “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here”.
The 22 year-old – who rose to fame on the The X Factor in hit boyband Union J – is a former pupil of Burnham’s St Andrew’s Junior School and also studied his GCSEs at King Alfred School in Highbridge.
George still has family in Somerset plus many friends in the Burnham area and says he’s looking forward to appearing on the show.
“I am really excited about being on the show and it actually feels really surreal! I can’t quite believe I am going to be on it. I’m looking forward to the challenge – I love doing new things and meeting new people,” he says.
“I’ve been in a situation like this before with The X Factor. You are there for support and I do genuinely like people. I feel like I am going to glue to people and make a lot of new friends in the jungle.”
He added: “It’s going to be so different to life with Union J. It’s a great change from singing but it’s definitely going to be way more scary than performing on stage.”
“With the group, you know your lines and you know what you are doing. Whereas with I’m A Celebrity, you are going in at the deep end and you don’t know if you will sink or swim.”
George admits he’s scared of moths and he’s going to miss his bed and home comforts the most.
The latest series starts this Sunday evening at 9pm on ITV1.
