95% of residents supportive of solar park plans near Burnham-On-Sea

Proposals for a new solar energy park in Watchfield, near Burnham-On-Sea, which could power up to 1,900 homes, have been given positive feedback by visitors to a public exhibition this week.

As reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com here, Hadstone Energy wants to build the solar park on farmland next to Pillmore Lane, east of the M5 motorway.

The firm displayed its plans at an exhibition in Watchfield Village Hall on Monday (April 22nd) where feedback was mostly very positive.

Director James Rowe told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had 30 attendees and from the feedback forms the response was 95% supportive or strongly supportive of the project.”

“Typically, people either liked or were neutral to solar energy generation, and were neutral to our solar park because it was clear that they wouldn’t be able to see it easily.”

He added: “Most people seemed to accept that farmers need to diversity their income sources, that the solar park wouldn’t be easy to see and that it wouldn’t have an adverse effect on local residents. There were very few people who were concerned by the solar park.”
