While the outdoor swimming pool was removed many years ago, debris from the structure continues to re-emerge in the sand and mud every few years.
Sedgemoor District Council has this week employed a contractor to remove the rocks and boulders to the south of the jetty.
Sedgemoor’s resort manager Graham Newing told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Every few years we see rocks re-emerging in the sand where the Marine Lake swimming pool was located.”
“This week’s works will help to make this area of Burnham beach more aesthetically pleasing and tidy up the environment for beach users and marine traffic.”
“It also addresses health and safety issues and ensures people can use the beach safely.”
Marine Lake, right, opened in 1931 and was used for swimming and boating. It was later removed due to heavy silting and erosion.
