Burnham-On-Sea ambulance station opened its doors to the public for its first family open day on Sunday (15th July).

South Western Ambulance Service (SWASFT) organised the event at its busy station in Burnham’s Love Lane to showcase ambulance resources and staff.

Vehicles on display during the day included frontline ambulances, rapid-response vehicles and the motorcycle response unit.

Some of the volunteer community first responders were also on-hand to talk about their role within SWASFT and to guide visitors through practical CPR demonstrations. BARB and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were among the supporting groups invited along to discuss their close working with the ambulance service.

Steve Barker, Lead Paramedic at Burnham Station, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very successful first event with a good number of visitors seeing our vehicles and equipment that we use, and meeting some of our frontline ambulance staff. We hope to hold another similar event next year.”

He thanked Chris Parsons, Paramedic at Burnham Station, for his work in organising the event.
