Dozens of protesters joined a second march through Berrow on Saturday (August 21st) as they stepped up their calls for a new footpath to be introduced along Coast Road.
The protest, organised by Berrow’s Local Action Team, was the second of two marches over the past week and was attended by almost 50 people.
Organiser Ken May said the two protest marches had been “successful in invigorating the campaign and raising the profile of why the path is needed.”
He added: “Our MP Tessa Munt, who joined the first march last weekend, is contacting the Golf Club to get a response on the land and she is also putting pressure on Ken Maddocks at the County Council to re-consider the situation.”
He added that residents in Berrow are also writing letters to the County Council as part of a co-ordinated effort to pile on the pressure.
And Berrow Local Action will meet in September to discuss proposals for further protest marches.
Saturday’s march attracted supporters from outside the area. Lesley Newey and his family, who are from St Albans in London, joined in. He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve been coming on holiday to Berrow for years and have always noticed how dangerous this road can be. Clearly, change is needed.”
